Happy New Year everyone!
I love being able to help out during the holidays. Chantal approached me wanting family photos that she could give as Christmas presents to her family.
They hadn't had professional photos done in a long time and really wanted to capture a moment in time of their young family.
We were more than happy to oblige. We met out at her family's farm, outside of Sherwood Park on a cold Sunday and had a blast. The kids were so great and seemed to be having a fun time, despite having to quickly run back into their cabin every five minutes or so to warm up.
Check out the Portraits section of our site for other family sessions we have done.

What a year it has been. dbphotographics has only existed in this form since August, but we have both seen such overwhelming support from our friends, family and clients that we cannot wait to see what 2012 brings.
We have a few fun ideas in store for the coming year, so keep your browsers tuned in.
It is with that, that we say so long 2011 and a huge heartfelt thanks to all who helped us get this far. You truly don't know how grateful we are. We humbly thank you.
We leave you with what we thought were our favourite images from this past year.
See you in 2012.

Sometimes a snowy day is a good thing.
Last weekend I was out with the Promise Productions crew once again, shooting their final images for their third show, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
We were just about knee deep in Edmonton River Valley snow, but the cast in full costume were total professionals. You can't even tell in the photos how cold their feet were.
As a reminder, there is still time left to help support the Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre in it's inaugural voyage by heading over to their IndieGoGo page and donating some money to this worthy cause. You can also head over to their Facebook page for the most current festival info.
Also check out TIX on the Square to get your tickets for this awesome family, holiday activity.
As for us, visit our Promotion page to see over theatre promo images we've done.
Hope to see you at the festival!

Recently I was at a fundraising event put on by SEBA (South Edmonton Business Association) supporting Prostate Cancer research. Yup, that means MOVEMBER!!!
I was able to set up a little section of the Century Grill bar to do an actual photo shoot for anyone who was sporting a moustache in support of the cause. I was thrilled that even some of the ladies wanted to get in on it.
Donating their time was a whole crew from the Global News Edmonton team (Jennifer Crosby, Gord Steinke, Carole Anne Guay, Shane Jones and Nicola Crosbie) - they served as guest bartenders and did an amazing job. There was never a moment they weren't smiling and having fun with the crowd. Nicola, Jennifer and Shane even stopped by the photo booth and hammed it up for the camera. They were so much fun!!! Two of the Edmonton Oilers Octane cheer team were there and did a great job selling the 50-50 tickets.
In all, the event raised over $4500!! What an achievement indeed. I was so glad to be a part of it.

It seems only fitting on this day when everyone is reflecting about the sacrifices of our brave men and women in the armed services, that we get to highlight an engagement shoot we did for Alex & Frank.
Alex is a school teacher. Frank serves in the military. They met with us in August excited for their New Years Eve wedding and wanted dbphotograohics involved. In that meeting, they mentioned that they would love to have pictures of Frank in his dress uniform and that they wanted to do a nostalgic, 1940s photoshoot as their engagement session.
Brad & I lit up at the idea!
On a cold October day, we met at the Alberta Aviation Museum. Alex looked stunning. Frank very sharp. We had such a blast and I really think it came through in the photos.
I can't wait for their snowy, December wedding. Check out the Portraits section of the page for other sessions we have done.
...and let us know your thoughts on this shoot in the comment section below, or on our Facebook page.

Hey all!
Please make sure you check out local Edmonton Artist, Sabrina Hanson's page. She asked me last month to take shots of her awesome robots and I was more than happy to.
They are truly fun designs and are great for kids and adults alike. So much so that we commissioned her to paint us our very own robots for our daughter's room.
Sabrina is currently being featured in the Urban Twist show at the Naess Gallery (inside The Paint Spot) from November 5th to the 29th.
Check out her tumblr page, buy a print on her Etsy page as well as Like her on Facebook.
Here are some examples of her cool work.

Erik's wife Athena is a fantastic woman. For his birthday, she booked a photoshoot with her and five of his hottest lady friends to do a Beauty and the Geek shoot.
Brad and I set up in their garage on the +30 September afternoon and had a great time. The ladies were really into it and I think it came across in the photos.
Also, check out his blog post recapping the whole day including a behind the scenes video.
Happy birthday Erik!

Promise Productions is holding it's inaugural children's theatre festival this December and you can be a part of it!
The Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre will run from December 20-24 in the Edmonton Avenue Theatre and will show case some fantastic productions including "The Fairy Catcher's Companion" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". It promises to be a wonderful festival for the whole family.
However, they need your help! At this point, Promise Productions has not secured any grant funding and is relying on individual donations to make the festival happen.
If you want to donate to help this great idea get off the ground, please visit their IndieGoGo page and donate there.
As for us, check out the poster design we did for the festival.
If you want to purchase tickets for the festival, please visit Tix on the Square.
We hope you'll check it out!

A few months ago I had the pleasure to photograph a luncheon hosted by NorQuest College here in Edmonton. It was a fundraiser called One Thousand Women: A Million Possibilities. The 1000 Women group believes that a thousand women raising a thousand dollars each equals a million dollars. It is that simple.
The luncheon featured some of Edmonton's most successful women gathered to hear the challenges that many young people and new Canadians face when looking for work. NorQuest College has helped many of these very people find not only jobs, but careers. It was heartwarming to hear the success stories.
Just the other day, Janice Moore from 1000 Women alerted me that my photos from the event have been published in the Fall 2011 edition of Edmontonians magazine!! Click the image below to view the online magazine (the photos are on page 43).
It is actually quite cool to see your photos in print I must say... I think I like this idea. So if anyone out there is looking to hire fashion photographers for your upcoming magazine articles, we are your guys!!!

Morgan Smith is one of the very talented actresses I had the pleasure of photographing during the run of the Tudor Queens at the Edmonton International Fringe during the summer.
Around the same time, we kept trying to coordinate a time where we could meet up to get her some new head shots.
July turned into September, but we finally found a time that worked and I got to try a Whyte Ave rooftop location that I've had my eye on for quite some time.
Check out the shots in our Promotion section and if you are looking for head shot for your portfolio, business or even just your Facebook or LinkedIn profile pic, keep an eye on this page in the coming days for an exciting offer.
Thanks to Thomas Scott. He knows why.

As Brad and I are always trying to learn and grow with our photography, sometimes we need to practice setups, lighting, posing. It works out well that my wife and daughter are always up for a shoot.
We are currently expecting our second and thought it would be a great time to head out to her father's property just north of the city and do a maternity/family/fall shoot. The weather was perfect, the light was awesome and he were able to capture a moment in time of our family.
Check out the shots below a see what we mean.
Thanks Brad for doing such a great job!

Last night I was invited to be the official photographer for Pecha Kucha 11, presented by Edmonton's NextGen. The event was awesome! Great presenters! Smoothly run. Fantastic volunteers.
If you get a chance, check out their next incarnation, Pecha Kucha 12 in February, 2012 tentitvely at the Garneau Theatre.
I'll never look at jeans the same way again.
Check out their Flickr page for more shots from the night.
...and thanks again to Thomas Scott for thinking of me.

On August 18, 2012, Candace and Tony are getting married. For fun, we did their engagement shoot exactly one year to the day.
They were troopers. Brad and I took them up and down Whyte Ave. We went to some alleys and caught a beautiful post rain sunset.
The real fun was working with the great staff at Bistro La Persaud, Coney Island Candy and the Red Square Vodka House. We got to take over certain sections to get some cool photos.
Head over to the Portraits section of the site to see other shots from this session.
See you in a year, Candace & Tony!- dave
During the Fringe, my old friend Charles asked if I could come in and take photos of their Freak Show, that was taking place in a tent on the Fringe grounds.
I had no idea what to expect but was awesomely surprised. His company, Swallow-A-Bicycle Theatre ran a 20 min show that showcased two freak show performers who airing their dirty laundry for all to see. The show has not just your standard carnival show, but a great story with some awesome characters and some solid performers.
Here are some shots from the show I attended. I they ever roll through your town, I definately recommend checking them out.

On Saturday August 20th, Dave and I spent the day with Lena & Scott. They got married at the Ellerslie Rugby Club on a beautiful day.
We headed to Century Grill to get the indoor shots - they turned out very nice! We have to send a big thank you to everyone at Century Grill for allowing us to take over their bar on a Saturday afternoon.
Here are a few of the shots we were able to get from the day. Another great looking couple, wouldn't you agree?
I had such a great time spending the morning with the lovely bride and amazing bridesmaids and Dave certainly had his hands full with the groom and his mates (right Scott? Ha ha!!).
Congrats Lena & Scott - we are very happy for you!!

Two images from the Fringe that I took for separate shows are currently gracing the Fringe page of the Edmonton Journal site.
Both shows are doing really well and are getting great reviews.
Check out the write up for:
The Not Evil Stepmother in the Edmonton Journal today
and
Tudor Queens: A Burlesque in Vue Weekly.
So happy I could be a small part of these two awesome productions.
