The Aliens

We got the chance to work with What It Is Productions again on their latest theatrical outing. In the past we've done work for such projects as Ligature Marks and Nighthawk Rules which both premiered at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. The Aliens, is their first foray into a main season production as part of Theatre Network's Roxy Performance Series, and we couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

The main poster design was a fun one to shoot. As the show takes place behind a cafe, we wanted to capture several of the moments of the show in an overlapping composite image.

They open tonight! Got check them out. Details below.

Bust 'Em Up Burlesque

Send in the Girls Burlesque has hit the big time!

Their new show, Bust 'Em Up Burlesque is opening tonight at the Citadel Theatre. We were so happy to be working with them to build promotional images for the fourth time.

For this shoot, we broke away from tradition where we shoot against a black wall, and went out into the real world. We first went to a house with an awesome claw bathtub, then headed over to the Mercer Tavern for the remainder of the session.

The Mercer was such a great fit because it has an actual large safe built right into the wall which fit perfectly with the 1920s bank robber setting of the show.

We will be there tonight for their opening. Can't wait to see it. You should see it too.

L'unithéatre

We were honoured when earlier this summer L'unithéatre approached us to help design the promotional material for their entire season. They challenged us to come us a series of images that had the same feel but each connected to one individual element of each show. We are used to shooting with actors to help create this kind of material so it was fun to play around with photo techniques to pull off a tone with inanimate objects. Only for La Passion de Narcisse Mondoux did we actually reach out to some lovely hand models to help build the image.

The first show of the season, LES BLUES DES OUBLIÉES is up and runs until October 24th. Please check it out if you get the chance. From the reviews they have been getting, it looks to be a stellar show. Here are the details:

LES BLUES DES OUBLIÉES

October 14th to17th and 21st to 24th, 2015 at 8PM, plus
Saturday Matinées, October 17th and 24th 2015 at 1:30PM. Pre-opening presentations on Oct. 14 and 15 at a reduced price.

Bone Cage

Theatre Yes is back and we are happy to be working with them again.

This time they are producing Catherine Banks' Bone Cage. We love working with this group.  Every time they approach us, we know we are in for something cool, and that we will have the artistic license to help sell the emotion of their upcoming project.

In meeting for this show, we talked a lot about the rage and frustration that is an underlying current throughout the story. We made that a central theme of the images. There has been a lot of positive feedback on how these turned out.

See for yourself, then follow the links to get all the info on the show.

BONE CAGE

BONE CAGE is a poetic masterwork set in a rural Nova Scotia town where logging is the way-of-life. The play follows the  unraveling of a group of tough-talking group of twenty-somethings who ache to take the world by storm but are hobbled by life in their industry town. The play is an urgently contemporary coming of age story that calls out poignantly to Alberta  where the backbone of the economy is built on volatile industries and jobs often come at a distinct personal price.

Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre - 2012

It's that time of year again! The snow has fallen, there is a jingle in the malls as you rush to get your shopping done, and back warming children's hearts for another year is the Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre, running December 18-22 at the C-103 (formerly the Catalyst theatre).

Promise Productions' annual gift to the city of Edmonton is back for it's second year. I had the privilege once again to handle all the graphic design and photography for this theatre festival.

If you have young ones, or are young at heart, you will not be disappointed with the awesome line up this year.

The festival is featuring:

Babes in Toyland by Rebecca Ryland

Bromance at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival

This is weird.

In the last few years, I have done so much work for others that it is kind of strange working on something of my own. But yes, I am stepping back into the theatre world with my good friend Mark Stubbings, and we are mounting a brand new show at Red Square Vodka House for this year's fringe festival.

Bromance, a new comedy by Mark Stubbings. It has the awesome talents of Mark and Taylor Chadwick as club promoters Butch and Marcel who are about to have their lives changed by a woman played by Elena Porter. Even douchebags need love too. I am directing this baby.

This is going to be a fun show and I hope to see you down there.

Here are the details for when and where you can check it out!

A Brontë Burlesque

Send in the Girls returns with their new soon to be Edmonton International Fringe Festival hit, A Brontë Burlesque!

These sold out mavens of burlesque are bringing their unique spin on the Tudor Queens, and this time applying it to the lives of Charlotte, Anne, Emily and Branwel Brontë. Once again I had the pleasure of being their official photographer and poster designer.

The idea was to keep it similar to last year's design while at the same time coming off fresh and original. To add to that, this is the first time I also designed Facebook Timeline cover photos for each of the ladies to display on their personal pages as well as a group one for the Send in the Girls Burlesque page.

It was a lot of fun and I'm really proud of how it turned out. Really hope to see you at the show this August.

inkPulse and WordsWorth

For the fourth year in a row, I was asked to do the graphic design by the Writer's Guild of Alberta. It started with their inkPulse writing camp, but this year I also got to do the poster for their new camp, WordsWorth.

I look forward to these designs every year. We've started a real theme on the inkPulse side, employing my sister-in-law as a model. The WGA has been receptive to the design and almost given me free reign each year.

For WordsWorth, they laid out what they were looking for and here is the result.

Follow the links on the images to find out more. Click here to register for WordsWorth and inkPulse's Sherwood Park, Grande Prairie or Lethbridge camps.

To see other poster designs we have done, head over to the Design section of our site.

Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre

Promise Productions is holding it's inaugural children's theatre festival this December and you can be a part of it!

The Snow Globe Festival of Children's Theatre will run from December 20-24 in the Edmonton Avenue Theatre and will show case some fantastic productions including "The Fairy Catcher's Companion" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". It promises to be a wonderful festival for the whole family.

However, they need your help! At this point, Promise Productions has not secured any grant funding and is relying on individual donations to make the festival happen.

If you want to donate to help this great idea get off the ground, please visit their IndieGoGo page and donate there.

As for us, check out the poster design we did for the festival.

If you want to purchase tickets for the festival, please visit Tix on the Square.

We hope you'll check it out!
