Misha & Caleb

It feels like every time you go downtown, another mural has graced the side of building, adding such personality to the neighbourhood. For Misha and Caleb's session, we headed to 104 St, one of our favourite spots in the city and just walked around the block taking advantage of the varying architecture in such a small radius.

We spent some time with the dogs then dropped them off to explore the rest of the block. Pretty happy with how these shots turned out. Enjoy!

Anne & Joe's Wedding

For whatever reason, we seem to book a lot of nurses for weddings. That works out great for us because they have all been amazing to work with. While Anne is not a nurse, she does work at a hospital and that’s how she heard about our work. She got to see it first hand when the bride or groom brought their wedding album in to show everyone at work. Nothing like some free advertising! HA!

You may remember that we held their engagement session at the same time an Edmonton Oiler playoff game was starting. Well, good news/bad news was that the Oilers were out of the playoffs by their wedding day.

Anne & Joe’s day was filled with many events. Apart from the regular Ceremony and Reception there was a tea ceremony, a first look, and several fun games that the Groom and his Groomsmen had to participate in before the Bride would make her appearance.

The Ceremony and Reception were both held at the Edmonton Marriott at River Cree Resort. Because we did not have to travel from venue to venue it allowed us to get a lot of photos in a shorter amount of time.

The weather cooperated as well. We didn’t get rained on in spite of threatening clouds. It actually got quite nice out!

All-in-all everyone had a great time! We are very happy for Anne & Joe!

Emily Anne & Jennifer - Engagement Session

Today is the wedding of Emily-Anne & Jennifer. We are so excited for these two!!

We were also very excited to shoot their engagement shoot. Often couples suggest doing their session at the Legislature Building (commonly know to us locals as "The Leg"). Now, nothing against The Leg, but it actually isn't the most amazing place for photos. It's a great place to visit, and it is beautiful to be around, but from a photography standpoint, it isn't that dynamic. But, the fact that these two both work at The Leg and got us access to take photos inside, that was exciting to us!!

For the shots outside the sun was definitely on our side so we used it as often as we could. Then we got to go inside. That was so good!

The Leg is truly a magnificent building. Dave and I were pretty happy with the multitude of locations we found to take photos of the happy couple. Since they work in the building and see it as "the workplace", I suspect they thought we were a bit strange for being so excited. If you think about it, who ever thinks their workplace is "photo-worthy"? But after we showed them a few of the photos we got during the session they were won over. Sometimes seeing things through someone else's eyes makes it appear different than how you pictured it.

We can't wait to spend their wedding day with them today. The engagement session was so fun and I know the wedding is going to be full of fun as well.

Liz & Greg

My sister is getting married!

Having worked so many weddings in the last few years, you forget all that gets put into pulling off these events. Our family has been consumed with wedding talk for the better part of 2017, and the big day is almost here. Even though I am part of the family, by nature I had a hard time letting anyone else photograph the big day.  Brad and I will be there with bells on to document the fun.

As with any couple about to be married, we ALWAYS recommend an engagement session. When we were talking about this with Liz and Greg, my mom kept chiming in, "I don't get it. Why do you do engagement photos? We never did those."

Well mom, beyond the added bonus of getting some photos the couple could use for invitations, or to post on social media, how many couples have ever had professional photos taken of themselves BEFORE their wedding? Would you really want the first time to be on the day where you are coordinating family, time pressures, caterers, flowers, music, decorations,  etc...?

An engagement session is really about being comfortable having your picture taken without the pressure of the big day. We get a quick sense of what the couple likes and what they are not into. Additionally, it allows for photos in locations you may not be able to get to on the big day.

In this case, Liz and Greg are getting married at the Calgary Zoo and their reception is there as well. So for their engagement session we got to hit one of our favourite urban spots.

Can't wait for the big day and to share the photos with y'all.

Does it make sense now mom?

Biddy & The Whole Family

We have been taking photos of Biddy and her immediate family for many years now, but recently we had a fantastic opportunity to photograph her extended family!! Her sister and brother-in-law and their kids were visiting Edmonton all the way from England so they figured it would be a glorious opportunity to get the whole family together for a photo shoot. Not everyone was on board. Her brother is not the most comfortable with getting his photo taken, and same can be said of Biddy's Mom. So we knew we had our work cut out for us. We were up for the challenge!!

I'm happy to report that we were successful in winning over these two! In fact, after the session, some comments from her Mom and brother included:

"They were so fun!" "Wow they were so good" "Can we do it again next year?" "Maybe we can get your dad out". ---- VICTORY!!!

I know we've said it at least a dozen times, but we are so lucky to get to work with such great people. Yes, Dave has known Biddy for many years, but I have only known her since we started doing their family photos over the last few years. And now I feel like I'm part of their family. That's pretty cool in my books.

Spring Portrait Blitz - Team Shereka

While it's always awesome to see some of our favourite clients at each of our blitzes, it is also nice to meet some new faces. Shereka and her crew found us through a referral and we couldn't have been happier spending some time with them.

A lot of laughs were had as we toured the Le Marchand Manor capturing this family in a moment in time. Hope to see you all again soon!

Spring Portrait Blitz - Team Elizabeth

When we set up these photo blitzes, we love seeing the different group combinations that show up. Sometimes it's a couple and their dog, sometimes and small family, and sometimes a large extended family... and their dog. With that, it was a treat when Elizabeth showed up with her clan, plus some grandparents. This session in particular felt like it was all about the moments in between the more "set up" shots. A little running around. A little dance break here and there.

Having chased around my own kids for years to get photos of them, I was happy to be able to keep up with this crew. Enjoy the quick glimpse into what we got that day.

Spring Portrait Blitz - Team Christina

Christina found us because of her brother Scott, who also participated in this Blitz. Scott and his wife Biddy have been at several of our sessions actually, and we were happy to meet more of the family.

One of the fun things about this session was trying to get the older daughter so smile. She was playing shy for a lot of the session but we were able to get her to start enjoying the idea of having her photo taken. The younger daughter seemed to be a natural in front of the camera though!

Here are some of the photos of the family.

Cassie & Drew's New Addition!

We photographed Cassie & Drew’s wedding last year and had a fantastic time! They are one of our absolute favourite couples. So we were thrilled to hear the news that they had recently added a member to their family.

Their daughter was born at the end of June and at the time of our session was just about a month old. Apart from a few crying moments, she did great! We love holding newborn sessions in the family’s own home. We feel it makes it more personal. The great light coming into Cassie & Drew’s bedroom made for a perfect setting for the bulk of the photos.

Congrats Cassie & Drew, we are so happy to see how your little girl has brightened your lives.
