Christine and Roy

The trick with winter weddings is to not look cold.

While Christine and Roy had their actual wedding in warm, warm, Hawaii, they elected to have their hometown reception in December. Quite the contrast! These two were troopers. This happened to be the first day of the year where it felt cold outside. The session involved a lot of "1,2,3,... coat off!", shoot, shoot, shoot, then "coat back on!".

The other cool (pun intended) element of this shoot was the history here. In a former life, Christine, Roy and I had all worked at Starbucks together. In fact, that's where these two met. I was honoured that the asked me to shoot their home gathering at Violino Italian Restaurant. We even hopped across the street to take some meaningful photos in a Starbucks.

This was such a fun night. Congrats you two! Here's to many years of happiness.

The Pipella's

It is always fantastic to catch up with a family as they grow. When we first worked with these three, it was a few weeks after Violet was born.

Now she is running around and exploring like you wouldn't believe. One of the great things about this session was that we the entire shoot was shot in the small park behind their house. It is always so cool to have the location have a connection to the family.

Thanks guys for having. We look forward to the next round soon.

Lauren & Tim

The big day has come and gone.

What a fun wedding this was and we knew it would be after the awesome engagement session we had with them a month before. The great thing about Lauren and Tim's wedding was it featured two of our favourite elements during a wedding photo shoot. A return to the place where the couple first met, and a place for the wedding party to sit, get a bite to eat, and something to drink mid photo shoot. In this case The Keg Steakhouse at South Edmonton Common satisfied both of those elements.

After photos, we headed to the Derrick Golf & Winter Club for a fantastic dinner and a great party. The night wrapped up with the bride bringing the house down with a karaoke 'Sweet Child of Mine". Such a great night.

Hears to many great years ahead Lauren and Time.

Fall Portrait Blitz 2015

Another Portrait Blitz has come and gone and we've delivered the images to all of the families that participated in the event. We thought we'd share some of the images from the day with you.

We certainly had a great day with everyone. Big thanks to everyone who participated. It was great that we got to work with a mix of new clients and some loyal clients as well. We love seeing the young ones growing up from photo shoot to photo shoot!!

We plan on having more and more of these photo blitz events so make sure to "like" our Facebook page so you can get updates on exactly when we are having another event.

Take a look at some of the shots from our Fall Portrait Blitz below.

Atticus

We love new born lifestyle sessions.

It it so great to take photos of a new family in their home, among their things. It gives the photos such a personal feel. Atticus' (or Bat-ticus as he was dubbed in the session) shoot is a great example of that. The warmth of the light in the sitting room. The family all dressed in their finest uniforms.  This photo shoot screamed of the personality of this family.

We had such a great time working with these three. Hope you enjoy the glimpse at this fun session.

Sylvia & David

What an honour it was to be a part of this beautiful celebration.

It was a small church wedding on a gorgeous day in May when it had snowed only a few days before. It was quiet and intimate. Even the power going out only added to the magic of the ceremony.

Afterwards, we stole off to the river valley for a few quick portrait shots before these two whisked away in their T-Bird off to celebrate their new marriage with those closest to them.

Enjoy a small sample of the photos from that day.

Hollie in the Parkade

Hollie and I agreed to meet on April 1st for a photo shoot. We were going to shoot outdoors in a few alleys around downtown Edmonton. March 31st the weather here was beautiful! It got to a high of +19 and was nice and sunny. Of course I looked at the forecast and noted that April 1st was supposed to be drastically different and only a high of +2 with snow. I was a bit sceptical (it might have been The Weather Network pulling our legs for April Fools Day) but when it started raining late in the day on March 31st I messaged Hollie and suggested a change of plans and arranged to shoot in an underground parkade instead. Even though Hollie assured me she was a trooper and could handle it, I convinced her the indoors would be better for both of us.

Well that was a good decision! April 1st was horrible… lots of snow and crazy wind. And if it got to +2 I would be surprised. We sure would have looked like fools if we tried to do this shoot outside!!

This was my first shoot with Hollie and I have to say I am very happy with how it went. An added bonus was having her Mom along for the shoot – she was able to hold a reflector for me for the bulk of the photos. I don’t often get that luxury… ha!

Take a look at the photos below to see what we were able to get from our April Fools Day shoot.

Nevada & Justin

Dave and I were contacted one day asking if we could arrange to do a photo shoot for a band. The challenging part was that they needed it done that night! Well, we made it happen and we were glad it worked out.

We met Nevada & Justin at Giovanni Music where Nevada teaches. After scoping the location quickly (we only had one hour in the space) we found a great stairwell to use. We also set up a white backdrop to get some other shots of the couple.

60 minutes later we were packing up the gear to go home. And we’re pretty pleased with the images we were able to get too!

Check out Nevada & Justin on their Reverb Nation page.

It was a pleasure working with these two and we look forward to working together soon!

Drat the Cat

Two summers ago, we had the pleasure of working with Kate Ryan and Plain Jane Theatre for their production of Little Fish at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival. It was a great shoot with a fun group of people.

Because of that great experience, I was excited when a message from Kate arrived in my inbox asking for some photos and design work for their new show Drat the Cat. She explained that she wanted to capture the feel of the original poster, while still giving it a fresh take.

We shot several different looks and then landed on the final poster image you see below. We encourage you to check out their production at the end of the month. Looks like it's going to be a great time. Details below.

The M-A Family

I'm sure when people think of Edmonton, the below images are what come to mind. We shot this session right after some new fallen snow had blanketed the city. It was simply gorgeous outside. Such a perfect time for a photo session. Tossing snow in the air. Making fresh tracks. All of it in a place this family frequents on a regular basis.

This is Edmonton. This is one of the reasons we love living here. Enjoy.

Alicia & Rob's Wedding

We love working with all of our clients, but there's no question that working with Alicia & Rob is always a fun time. They were in the wedding party for the wedding we shot for Robert & Melissa back in 2012 and it's safe to say that Rob was more than a handful that day. When they booked us for their wedding, we knew that this day was going to be a little zany, and they did not disappoint!!

A nice part of the day was stopping at Central Social Hall for a while. We were able to get several great shots while we were there!

Alicia & Rob have been together since High School  and it is obvious that they are meant to be together for the rest of their lives. The most obvious clue that this is true is the fact that Alicia is able to put up with Rob and his craziness!! HA!

We wish you all the best Alicia & Rob!!

Anna-Maria & Dwayne

Anna-Maria & Dwayne had quite a rockstar wedding. Once the couple were all dressed and ready to get married we headed off (the men in a limo and the ladies in a rockstar tour bus) to Hastings Lake Gardens, which is about 40 minutes outside of Edmonton.

After a beautiful ceremony in a gazebo we stayed at the Gardens and were able to capture some pretty amazing photos on the grounds. There was a rustic cabin, some old tractors and a great old truck.

Once we finished at that location we all piled into the rockstar bus and made our way back to Edmonton for the reception. It was a ton of fun (complete with the Bride smashing her Groom's face into the cake!).

Congrats Anna-Maria and Dwayne! We wish you all the best.

Take a look at some of the photos from their big day:

Sue & Chris

What a great wedding!

Brad and I got connected with these two when we shot the wedding of my good friend (Chris' daughter) Sabrina. It was a short and beautiful ceremony at the Hotel MacDonald, followed by a quick round of photos before dinner.

We were honoured to be a part of the big day and despite the autumn showers, were pretty happy with how the photos turned out.

Enjoy and congrats Sue & Chris!

Gwen is here!

I love at home new born sessions. There is something about capturing a young family in the place where they spend most of their time. In their element. I was so excited to meet Gwendolyn, especially because it gave me an excuse to reconnect with longtime friends Kim and Treena.

Enjoy these shots from the session.

Paula & Andrew Got Married!

This wedding had heart.

It was clear from the first time we met these two that they loved each other deeply. Even more so when we went back to the Red Ox Inn, the place of their first date, for their engagement session that this was a pretty special thing. That sentiment rang true throughout their entire wedding day.

From the beautiful church wedding, to the gorgeous farm property to the quick tours of Stony Plain and Spruce Grove, we spent the entire day just one step ahead of the rain which left us with nothing but dramatic skies and cool temperatures.

Here is a sample of what we captured on that day. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Melissa & Ben's Wedding

Melissa and Ben's wedding was such a simple and classy event. It was such a relaxed day that started with a first look at Tavern 1903, then a walk to the beautiful entryway of the Hardware Grill, followed by a stroll around the block.

There is something to be said for the bridal party that doesn't necessarily match with identical outfits, but each member gets to showcase their personal style. I love how it all came together. We then headed off to Latitude 53 for the ceremony, followed by a delicious dinner catered by my all time favourite restaurant Culina, then speeches, and a great party.

Thanks so much for including us in your day. It was such a treat. Enjoy a snippet of what we got on the day.

Amy & Ian are Married

What an awesome day! We had so much fun with these two. When Amy & Ian laid out the design of the space where the ceremony and reception were taking place, neither Brad or I could help but get excited.

It was a beautiful room, gorgeously lit. The Westbury Theatre at Fringe Theatre Adventures can be an intimidating space. These two pulled it off magnificently. The day was so smooth. It included a much appreciate drink and appetizer stop at MKT which allowed us to get some pretty great photos.

Thanks so much for letting us be a part of the big day guys. I hope you dig the shots as much as we do.

V's First Birthday

How time flies!

Little Violet is already a year old. It really doesn't feel like that long ago that we took her newborn photos. This girl is so little put running around like crazy.

So also seemed fascinated by the camera. It was really fun to hang out with her again.

Enjoy a sample of what we got before her party.

Ligature Marks_

The Edmonton International Fringe Festival is right around the corner. This is one of my favourite times of year because the theatre scene explodes with creativity and photography wise, it really allows us to flex our design muscles.

One such project is Ligature Marks by What It Is Productions. I have worked with this combination of artists a few times in the past so I had a sense of what they were wanting.

This show looks great. I had a chance to read the script and it seems like a very interesting project.

Make you you get your tickets soon!

See you at the Fringe!
